The Project

composition workshop

Every summer, a small group of nominated composer fellows — graduate students or early-career artists of varied backgrounds and aesthetics — join the Project for a week of workshop rehearsals, composition lessons, performances, presentations and documentation of their Loretto Project work.

Participation is (and has always been) tuition-free.

residency

Each Project cohort also includes resident artists — composers and composer-performers who spend the week mentoring composer fellows, as well as developing, documenting, presenting, and/or performing their work, often in collaboration with Longleash.

public events

Each summer, the Loretto Project has joined forces with local organizations to present live concerts of adventurous, engaging new music in the central Kentucky region. Past and current partner organizations include the Bernheim Arboretum, Louisville Public Radio – Classical WUOL, the Louisville Academy of Music, University of Louisville School of Music, Dreamland, and the Loretto Motherhouse.

pathways initiative

The Pathways Initiative is a short-form weekend composition workshop for young instrumentalists interested in exploring composition. Past seasons have featured workshops, lessons with Loretto Project composer fellows and residents, and performances, as well as materials and resources for independent composition activities. (On temporary hiatus in 2022.)
